"Trois Perspectives à Giverny"
30x40" oil on gallery wrapped canvas, ready to hang.
Several years ago I traveled to Giverny, France to see Monet's beautiful gardens and home in the flesh. It was as surreal as you would imagine to visit the home of one of the most famous artists ever to live, and also one that happened to be my biggest influence. I took many photos while I was there, and finally had time to paint this one during the 2020 Covid-19 quarantine. This process was like painting three different subjects in one. At first look, you may notice the ripples and lillies on the surface of the water. If you continue to view the painting, you may notice the reflection of the trees and sky above the water. And finally, there are areas where I let the green growth beneath the surface of the pond show through. I truly enjoyed painting this serene view and I often thought about how I felt being there, while it came to life.
